Communicating Jazz:

UJD | Jazz in the Community: WRR-FM to launch Jazz at Fair Park program Sunday

Founder's Comment:  This is something that is long past due. WRR has always been perfectly positioned to carry the torch for not only classical but jazz. This move to program jazz on the FM dial at WRR will be supported by Uptown Jazz Dallas with the hope that programming will continue to grow and expand across the board.

WRR-FM to launch Jazz at Fair Park program Sunday

Dallas – The first full-length jazz program produced by WRR Radio and one of the few available anywhere in the nation begins at 7 p.m. Sunday at 191.1 FM and worldwide at wrr101.com. Hosted by jazz aficionado Vicki Meek, the show will feature interviews, music and live performances by jazz musicians from Dallas and around the world. Each month will feature a particular jazz style or period in history influenced by jazz music and musicians.

"I have been committed to sharing this classical music genre and what better place to do that than on Dallas' premier classical radio station,” said Meek. Jazz at Fair Park will be produced and broadcast from the historic WRR studios in Fair Park. WRR is a program of the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs.

WRR 101.1 FM is a 24-hour classical music station; only one of its kind in Texas and the oldest same-owner station in the United States. WRR is also the first licensed broadcast station in Texas and one of the nation's five inaugural stations. Owned by the City of Dallas and operated by the Office of Cultural Affairs, the station was licensed in August 1921.
