DALLAS JAZZ APPRECIATION MONTH
As part of a national initiative, a number of jazz presenters, jazz educators and jazz supporters in Dallas work together to create a collective initiative which is called D’JAM or Dallas Jazz Appreciation Month. We are presenting a series of jazz events in April of 2014 highlighting and showcasing jazz in the greater Dallas community. This volunteer collective includes nonprofit arts groups, universities, festivals, Arts Magnet high schools, cultural centers, jazz clubs and churches.

DJAM 2014 KICKS OFF WITH FREE JAZZ OPEN HOUSE

WHAT:Dallas kicks off Dallas Jazz Appreciation Month (D’JAM), April 1-April 30, 2014, with a free jazz open house featuring music by area jazz musicians and a presentation of the Jazz Legacy Awards in four categories—Artist, Educator, Supporter and Benefactor. The event is open to the public. Food and beverages will be available for sale.

ABOUT:U.S. Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM) is held April 1-30 every year to draw public attention to the glories of American Jazz as both an historical and living treasure. Sponsored by the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History since 2004 as a nationwide tribute, JAM is designed to energize and celebrate the American jazz scene and inspire people of all ages to participate in jazz—to study, attend concerts, listen to the radio and recordings, read books and support institutional programs.
