[With Jazz Around Town, we'll be checking out various places around DFW doing jazz, among other things. They'll be rated on the Jazz Scale:
(1) Poor, (2) Decent Set, (3) Liked It, (4) Jazzed Up, (5) JazzMaster Set!]
Oak Cliff Cultural Center - Rating (4) Jazzed Up
Oak Cliff Cultural Center located at 223 W. Jefferson Blvd., hosted it's newly introduced Verse & Rhythm night. On this stop, UJD caught nawlin's style jazz from one of it's social network members, Inner-City All-Stars led by trombonist - Calvin Sexton. They were followed by some passionate 'spoken word artists' many of which were Oak Cliff residents.
Admission was Free! An affordable menu was catered by East African Imperial Cuisine with wines and soft drinks available.
Of all of the cultural centers in Dallas operated by the City's Office of Cultural Affairs, Oak Cliff's facility is the smallest. That said, this night was a great evening and they had a really nice turnout that was truly engaged. The Cultural Center's plan under the management of Mr. Rafael Tamayo, is to continue this type of programming. On this night it truly achieved 'Jazzed Up' Status! We'll be going back.
Stay tuned for some video highlights from this evening.
