2tone, the unique pairing of jazz harpist Cindy Horstman and bassist Mike Medina, has thrilled audiences for more than 20 years. Known as one of the preeminent jazz harpists in the country, Cindy is a Sammons Jazz audience favorite. The duo is joined in the opening set by Larry White on steel guitar, Sean McCurley on drums, and Tom Braxton on sax.
Soulful pianist Julie Bonk, the 2014 Sammons Jazz Artist of the Year, has performed for everyone from Bob Hope to Bugs Henderson. As a collaborator and mentor to many aspiring artists, Julie is known for her generosity toward her fellow musicians. She takes the second set backed by an accomplished group including vocalists Robin Hackett and Tatiana Mayfield, saxophonist Rachella Parks-Washington, bassist Buddy Mohmed, and drummer Woody Berner.
Presenting great jazz since 1989, Sammons Jazz is held at the Sammons Center for the Arts, 3630 Harry Hines at Oak Lawn. Ticket prices are regular $40 and $35 for members with open seating for all. Ticket prices include beverages, a light meal, and valet parking. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.; the performance begins approximately at 7:30 p.m. Each performance features two sets of about an hour each with an intermission between. Dress is casual.
