The Hurst Selection: SoulandJazz.com (August 18, 2012)

DEFCON #3.

Heading in your direction over the coming week will be the first online and terrestrial radio plays of the incredible full-length version of  Gregory Porter's '1960 What' Gerardo Frisina Cuban Soul Mix (10:34) from SoulandJazz.com Records. Brian Hurst will premier this Saturday on The Hurst Selection but cats like Gilles Peterson, Mike Chadwick and Norman Jay MBE will also be stepping up to the plate. It's gonna be big. Really BIG!

Meanwhile, we also have the digital only Radio Edit of '1960 What' about to get some love this week on Paul Cutting's Soulcuts 2012 and shows on WRFG in Atlanta with the men called DJ Ausar and DJ Tabone - nice one fellas.

If you missed it last week, here's a tantalising first listen to an excerpt from the Radio Edit:

The track will be available through all the usual suspects - iTunes, Amazon, eMusic, etc, along with the big WAV version via Bandcamp.com as well. Nice.

As mentioned last week, the full-length Gerardo Frisina Cuban Soul Mix will also be on the new compilation from SoulandJazz.com Records - The Hurst Selection Vol.2. The full track listing will be published next Monday and the album itself will be available from from September 10 (UK/Europe) & September 11 (US).

As for other stuff....Saturday rolled around once again with Brian Hurst delivering further weekend treats. The Hurst Selection which this time featured 23 tracks, wound up and ready to love your ears. There was crisp biscuits - lots of them, including in hour one freshness from Mint Condition, Nick Van Gelder, Ralf Gum, Bennetrhodes and DJ Kemit. There was classic jazz-funk flavours come from Grover Washington Jr. and Lesette Wilson plus 5 beauties from Earth, Wind & Fire. All 'N' All - pardon the pun, two hours of goodness that will please the most demanding of ears. By clicking the link you'll ensure the happiest of ears. Simple really.

Shall we?

Bobaddiction, a Bubble Tea Truck, is Rolling into Dallas on July 1

Randy Hu, one of the guys behind this new boba truck business, emailed me an hour ago to tell me about Bobaddiction. He wondered if I’d be interested in a story about bubble tea, a Taiwanese tea-based drink that started in Taichung. Recipes for it consist of fruit, milk, tea, and tapioca balls that can [...]

Buy Tickets to the Bishop Arts Dishcrawl on Tuesday, May 28

Every week or so, I get another email about Dishcrawl. I think this means it’s doing quite well. Another Dishcrawl thingy is happening on Tuesday, May 28, at 7 p.m. If you buy a ticket for $75, you’ll get to eat from three great restaurants under the span of 3 hours: Mesa, Bolsa, and Boulevardier. Only [...]

Bits & Bites: Things to Do and Chew in Dallas This Weekend, May 17-19

I would just like to take this time, again, to remind you all that D Magazine’s 100 Best Restaurants Party is taking place on Wednesday, May 22, at 3015 Trinity Groves. This is your once-in-a-lifetime chance of pieing Nancy in the face. Do ittttt. Friday Every year Addison upstages all the other suburbs and holds its [...]

Where Do You Go for Ramen in Dallas?

Word comes that Justin Holt isn’t done with his ramen pop-up shops. He’s doing another one this Saturday at Ten Bells Tavern. Just a little over a week ago, Teresa Gubbins posted on CultureMap that the Lucia-turned-Driftwood chef decided he would take a break from mass-producing his noodles in disposable bowls. But the ambitious man [...]
