Profile Information

About Me:
Spenser Liszt fronts the self titled Denton, TX based band Spenser Liszt and His Disciples. Organic composition and pure improvisation are the foundations of his jazz-influenced group. Liszt recently released his debut album Until Further Notice (Armored Records), October 2013.
Protruding from an entirely non-musical family, saxophonist Spenser Liszt has followed his dreams of performing professionally. As a native of Dallas, Texas, Liszt showed interest in music at an early age learning violin and piano before taking up saxophone in 1999. Liszt studied classical saxophone with Don Fabian at Southern Methodist University, while simultaneously learning the workings of jazz with trumpeter Akira Sato. In 2008, he transferred to the University of North Texas to pursue a musically competitive lifestyle.
Liszt holds a Master of Music in jazz studies at the University of North Texas under the apprenticeship of Brad Leali. Liszt has collaborated with well-known artists such as Miles Okazaki, John Clayton, Terrell Stafford, Peter Erskine, Frank Wess, Wayne Bergeron, Dennis DiBlasio, Brad Leali, Shelley Carrol, Roger Boykin, Lars Jansson, Akira Sato, Stefan Karlsson, Steve Wiest, Frank Mantooth and world-renowned nu metal band Korn.
Liszt prides himself in his ability to double equally on all saxophones as well as the bass clarinet, clarinet, flute, and bassoon. Liszt bases his musical approach upon Sonny Rollins idea of pure improvisation and prodigious sight reading ability.
Liszt has expanded his expertise nationwide traveling and performing with UNT’s grammy nominated world-renowned One O’clock Lab Band as the baritone saxophonist. Liszt is featured on their recent release Lab 2013, on Drew Zaremba's arrangement of "As Time Goes By" by Herman Hupfield as well as Lab 2012, on the track “Be That Way” by Tyler Mire.
