- About Me:
- Born in New York City and raised in Park City, Utah, Alex Cannon began his study of music at the age of 7, starting with classical piano and later transitioning to the electric guitar at the age of 11. His profound love of the instrument led him to explore music ranging from rock to blues to funk. During high school he discovered jazz artists such as Miles Davis and Pat Metheny which sparked an immense passion for jazz, one which continues to this day. After attending community college in California, Alex relocated to Denton to attend the University of North Texas where he received a performance scholarship and a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Studies. During his time at UNT, Alex was given the opportunity to study with Fred Hamilton and participated in various ensembles including the 3 O’Clock Lab Band. Over the years, Alex has been fortunate enough to have performed with Stefan Karlsson (Eddie Gomez Trio), Shelley Carrol (Duke Ellington Orchestra), Bobby Rodriguez (Quincy Jones) and many other talented musicians. He is currently a member of the Tyler Mire Big Band and performs regularly with a variety of groups in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
