Jazz Around Town: Dallas Jazz Orchestra

With Jazz Around Town, UJD will be checking out various jazz presenters in DFW, among other jazzy things. They'll be rated on the Jazz Scale:

Dallas Jazz Orchestra: Rating (5) JazzMaster Set

It's a true joy to highlight what's happening in Dalla's jazz community. Our city (and region) is full of not only promising young talent in the areas of composition, performance and recording, but, our area is robust with it's own jazz vanguard. Such is the case with Dallas Jazz Orchestra. The Big Band is led by Galen Jeter and has maintained JazzMaster artistry for now 39 years.

This legacy was celebrated at the historic Lakewood Theater in a "39 and Holding" big band concert that featured jazz vocals and special guests. Lakewood Theater is a gem and is overlooked much of the time because of geography to theaters nearer the Central Business District. But, it doesn't lack in style and grace. Not to mention, it has a great upper room neighbor in the Balcony Club (catch the Jazz Around Town review on that set).

Stay tuned for video highlights of this JazzMaster Set celebration of 39 years of big band jazz from Dallas Jazz Orchestra (DJO). Congratulations to the musicians and it's director, Galen Jeter and his lovely wife Mary.
