“Jazz Icons – Salute to Baker, Mulligan & Monk” - Anevening with the music of Chet Baker, Gerry Mulligan & Thelonious Monk
Opening Group: Akira Sato Quartet led by trumpet player, arranger/composer, and educator Akira Sato, has a deft and imaginative interpretation of the great cool jazz collaboration of the early 1950s between trumpeter Chet Baker and baritone saxophonist Gerry Mulligan. The quartet is comprised of Akiro on trumpet along with Michael Morrison on baritone saxophone, Lynn Seaton on bass, and Richard DeRosa on drums.
Second Set: Evidence led by Dave Zoller represents artist, composer, arranger Dave Zoller’s life-long fascination with – and attraction to – the music of Thelonious Monk. Joining Dave and contributing their considerable instrumental virtuosity are Woody Berner on drums, Pete Gallio on saxes, and Jeffrey Eckles on bass.
