March

13 Quamon Fowler
Saxophonist Quamon Fowler is a great talent to watch on the Dallas jazz scene. His stylistic approach consists of a mixture of straight-ahead, fusion, and bebop jazz combined with gospel, groove, and Texas Soul. Having studied music performance at both Southern University and Texas Tech University, Quamon now spends much of his time teaching saxophone and playing jazz throughout the DFW area. He released his sixth album, Prevail, in 2012.

20 The Funky Knuckles
The inevitable result of a talent-soaked soul and jazz community, The Funky Knuckles are taking the sound of Dallas to an entirely different level. The band is comprised of sidemen from some of the biggest artists in the industry (Beyonce, Erykah Badu, Chrisette Michelle, Talib Kweli, P Diddy, etc.) yet possesses a sound distinctly separate from any of their individual projects. The Funky Knuckles move together musically as a school of fish, never complacent and always stretching the boundaries of improvisation and composition.

27 Ephraim Owens
Ephraim Owens, an Austin-based trumpet player, is a master of the jazz arena, well known for his signature solos and ability to improvise. A native of Dallas, Ephraim began playing classical trumpet at the age of eight, later attending Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. For the past two years, the Austin Chronicle chose Ephraim as the Best Horn Player in Austin.
