Presented in partnership with the Confucius Institute at UT Dallas.
Known as the stubborn stone, working jade demands the artist’s determination and patience. Celebrate the exhibition Qualities of Jade and enjoy learning about this artistic medium with tours of the exhibition, activities led by the Museum of Nature & Science, touch tables with examples of jade stones, and rockin’ karaoke.
Art Activity: Tangram
6 – 9PM | Garden Gallery
Tangrams are ancient Chinese puzzles made of seven moveable geometric shapes. The idea of this puzzle is to use all seven tans (pieces) to create a picture or design.
Art Activity: Dragon Paper Cutting
6 – 9PM | Jade Room
Chinese Paper Cuts have been a traditional form of decoration in China at Chinese New Year and all year round for thousands of years. Make your own paper cut using either the dragon template provided, in honor of 2012 being the Year of the Dragon, or create one using your imagination. Supplies limited.

You can’t touch the art, but you can touch these stones. Take a moment to examine different types of jade. Also learn from our education department how artisans worked with this demanding material.
